Facebook Asks For Feedback On Social Ads

  • June 6, 2008
Facebook has begun asking for member feedback on its Social Ads, which tell people which of their friends are "fans" of particular marketers.

According to the Inside Facebook blog, users have started seeing dialog boxes appear on the site asking them to rate ads as "Misleading," "Offensive," "Pornographic," "Uninteresting," "Irrelevant," or "Repetitive." Not all Facebook users have gotten the same request form.

Other startups like Adpinion provide similar services for advertisers and publishers hoping to achieve better ad targeting through explicit user feedback, according to Inside Facebook.

Facebook's Social Ads have raised privacy concerns, although not to the extent of its controversial Beacon program. A Canadian advocacy group last week filed a privacy complaint against Facebook, accusing the company of collecting more data than it needs a without users' express permission, through both ad programs.
