Apps Company Eyespot Partners With Limelight

eyespot homepageWeb-based applications provider Eyespot has partnered with content delivery company Limelight Networks to broaden its reach to consumers online.

"The economies of our model put broadband video in reach of any Web site," said Jim Kaskade, president and CEO of Eyespot. "To date, most online video content resides on several relatively large properties."

In March, Eyespot launched a suite of video hosting and monetization tools for mid-market and long-tail publishers with a self-serve offering for integrating video into any Web site.

Eyespot now brings together rights-cleared content, content production and personalization tools, and integrated video content delivery services including Limelight Networks' CDN to give publishers a simple solution for online video.

Until recently, Eyespot had focused on creating video personalization tools for customers like Lucasfilm, SonyBMG Entertainment, and Fox Interactive Media.

"There is incredible potential for small and mid-size Web sites to immediately begin using video, and to leverage the social aspects of it to differentiate in a growing and competitive online marketplace," said Kaskade.

Its new personalization suite includes hosted applications for consumers to view, upload, and share videos online and via mobile--all from a publisher's own Web site, along with personalization features to mix user-generated content and a library of more than 1,000,000 rights-cleared videos, music, and photos.

The startup also allows monetization of in-stream ads through partnerships with Google AdSense for Video, Tremor Media, adap.tv, and others.

Earlier this year, Microsoft was rumored to be considering a deal to acquire Limelight. The content delivery network services Microsoft's Xbox Live platform.
