Most Americans Support Ban Of Social-Video App TikTok

Chinese officials would rather the United States ban TikTok than see the social video app’s U.S. operations sold to a company outside of Beijing’s control, The Wall Street Journal reported this week.

The U.S. House on Wednesday voted to approve a bill that requires ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban, alleging that the gathering of American user data is a national security risk. TikTok has claimed it won’t turn over the data to China’s government if asked to do so.

A majority (53%) of U.S. adults support the legislative ban, including 37% who “strongly” support it. Conversely, a mere 16% oppose the move, while 31% have no opinion, according to survey results from researcher CivicScience.
