NBA Launches Premium Subscription Video Service

The National Basketball Association and NBA Digital on Wednesday launched a subscription service, which will offer fans access to a full season of live NBA games on NBA.com.
Throughout the regular season, fans in some 200 countries and territories will have access to over 40 live NBA games online each week.
Of all the professional sports leagues, the NBA is known for its aggressive adoption of new media and distribution models. This summer, for one, NBA Digital launched T-Mobile Close Up: NBA Eastern Conference Finals, a live streaming sports application. The service is available via the T-Mobile G1 with Google, and is providing fans with access to four unique video channels throughout the 2009 NBA Eastern Conference Finals.
The premium subscription service will set consumers back $149.95, which include access to all live games, while NBA League Pass Broadband Choice -- which allows fans to select up to seven teams to watch throughout the regular season -- costs $99.95.
Both packages provide subscribers with access to new features, including a live-game digital video recorder function to pause and rewind live games; a full-season archive to view games on-demand; and live home and away audio broadcasts of all games. In addition, fans can watch multiple live games at the same time.
Along with live camera angles, the mobile application provides fans with post-game video highlights of the ongoing Conference Semifinals and continuing through the Eastern Conference Finals.
In addition, fans can access the content online through NBA.com TNT Overtime Extra, where a mosaic video player lets users watch up to four live streaming camera angles at the same time.
