WPP's MEC, Mindshare Units Dominate New Biz Competitiveness

WPP's Mediaedge:cia and Mindshare units dominated the rankings of more than 400 media network shops on their ability to pitch new business, according to results of the 2010 edition of the Compitches report from Paris-based media agency tracking service RECMA.

MEC, with a score of 108 global pitch points led the pack, followed by Mindshare with 102 points.

Publicis' Starcom MediaVest unit ranked third with 99 points, followed by Aegis Group's Carat, with 98 points.

The points reflect each agency's "excellence in being successful in pitches," the RECMA report notes, but do not necessarily measure each agency's new business wins or their net media billings growth.

"It is a pure assessment of the level of competitiveness in winning, or retaining existing accounts," the report noted.

RECMA did not release rankings for other agencies tracked in the report, which covers competitive media account pitches in 35 countries, but said that following the industry's recession in 2009, "most of the networks claimed double digit growth in 2010."
