Localytics: Verizon One-Third of iPhone 4s

Eight months after getting the iPhone, Verizon Wireless accounts for nearly a third (32%) of iPhone 4s in the U.S. market, according to app analytics provider Localytics. The firm bases its estimate on usage of the 1,500 apps that use its software for analytics tracking on the Apple smartphone.

Localytics said Verizon had gained ground on AT&T in iPhone share especially in the last two months, possibly driven by people scooping up Verizon iPhone before the carrier did away with its unlimited data plan. As of today, Verizon has replaced the unlimited plans with a tiered data plans starting at $30 a month for new smartphone customers. AT&T introduced tiered data plans a year ago.

Verizon said earlier this year it sold 2.2 million iPhones in the first two months after release.  It should provide an update on iPhones sales when it announces second quarter earnings later this month.
