'X Factor' Hits Minor Note With TV Audiences

The-X-Factor

A Yahoo/Entertainment Weekly survey found "The X Factor" is the new show that consumers are most enthused about, but the numbers are hardly overwhelming. Only 18% of respondents said they were excited to watch the Fox singing competition.

Still, that topped ABC's "Charlie's Angels" at 15% and NBC's "Prime Suspect" at 12%. Just below at 11% were NBC's "The Playboy Club," Fox's "Terra Nova" and CBS' "Person of Interest."

The online survey was conducted among 2,000 people ages 18 to 64 who watch at least an hour of TV a week through a Yahoo partnership with Ipsos OTX MediaCT.

Notable cast changes sparked divergent responses. Only 11% said they would "definitely" keep watching "The Office" with Steve Carell gone, but most said Ashton Kutcher replacing Charlie Sheen on CBS' "Two and a Half Men" was either "a great move" or "an even swap."

Among the stars making returns, 35% said they were excited for Tim Allen to return with an ABC sitcom, but only 18% for Sarah Michelle Gellar on CW's "Ringer."

Other results indicated that a pair of HBO shows and one on AMC may have the most engaged audiences. HBO's "True Blood" led with 58%, saying it was a show "viewers really need to focus on." HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and AMC's "The Walking Dead" came in at 57% in that gauge. Showtime's "Dexter" and HBO's "Game of Thrones" were at 54%, giving HBO three of the top five.

Many shows performed well with those likely to tweet or post to Facebook while watching, perhaps an indication of engagement. "True Blood" led at 29%, tied with "Dexter." "Game of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead" at 23% tied for third. CW's "Vampire Diaries" was second at 24%.
