How’s The Daily doing? "We’re Number 1!” exclaimed Greg Clayman, publisher of Rupert Murdoch’s tablet-only news app, during his afternoon keynote at OMMA’s Tablet Revolution conference. About a year old, Clayman was referring specifically to The Daily’s top position in Apple’s iTunes Store -- beating out last year’s top revenue grosser, Angry Birds.
Piling it on, Clayman boasted that the app now has over 250K monthly readers -- who spend an average of 20-30 minutes day with the service -- and 100K paid subscribers.
For Clayman, the numbers validate News Corp.’s bet that, essentially, if you challenge the most creative people in the media business to focus an a single app, the result can be pretty great.
