TWC Brings More Baseball Espanol
As Time Warner Cable is set to launch an all-Spanish language regional sports network (RSN) in Los Angeles, Fox is moving in that direction, at least with marquee programming. The
company will air 100-plus games from three Southern California pro teams this year in Spanish.
Next year, the figure for Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels games along with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers will increase to 150-plus.
Time Warner Cable will debut two RSNs in the region -- one in English and one in Spanish -- later this year with Los Angeles Lakers games as the linchpin. It may try to grab the Dodgers games starting in 2014.
The Fox Sports Networks games, which are carried in English on Fox Sports Net and Prime Ticket, will air as stand-alones in Spanish on dedicated channels carved out by cable and other distributors.
Fox Deportes is a national network, but uninvolved in the particulars of this deal.
Los Angeles is the country’s largest Hispanic market with 1.9 million homes, topping New York with 1.3 million.
In addition to the Lakers, the TWC RSNs will carry Los Angeles Galaxy soccer matches. A bidding war could break out between TWC and Fox for Dodgers games in both languages next year.
