Arbitron: 'Words With Friends' Top Gaming App

Zynga’s Words With Friends was by far the most popular mobile gaming app in the first quarter, attracting almost 14% of adult U.S. smartphone users monthly, according to new data from Arbitron Mobile. Spin-off word game Hanging With Friends was second, with a 5.5% share of the audience, followed by Solitaire (4.5%), Angry Birds (3.7%) and Temple Run (3.4%.)

Words With Friends was second when it came to time spent, with an average of more than six hours a month in the first quarter. Tops in that category was Klondike Solitaire, at over 7 hours a month. Other top games in terms of time spent included Bubble, Bejeweled and Hanging With Friends.

Nowhere in sight, though, was Draw Something, the mobile social game Zynga acquired in March for $210 million. After racing up the app charts in the App Store and Google Play earlier this year, the Pictionary-style game lost 4 million monthly users in April.
