JWT Worldwide Names Sherman CEO, NY

JWT Worldwide has raided archrival BBDO to procure its latest senior management hire -- Peter Sherman, who becomes CEO of JWT’s flagship New York office.

Sherman is tasked with advancing the shop’s strategic and creative direction and growth. He will also accelerate the development of the agency’s nontraditional offerings, per JWT. Until now, David Eastman, CEO JWT North America, has overseen the New York office as part of his NA remit. He will continue to oversee the agency’s North American operations, with the exception of New York.

Sherman will report to Bob Jeffrey, chairman and CEO, JWT Worldwide. “Peter has the right blend of business acumen, client relationship management expertise, and global and domestic experience, coupled with an obsession for great work,” stated Jeffrey.

Sherman had been executive vice president and managing director, BBDO Europe. In that role, which he had held since 2010, Sherman managed 35 BBDO offices in 18 countries across the European region, excluding those in England, France and Germany. Before that he was managing director at BBDO San Francisco. Earlier, he held posts at McCann in New York, FCB and Cramer-Krasselt.

Sherman’s hire is the latest in a series of recent senior staff moves at JWT’s New York office. Earlier this month, the agency named two well-regarded creatives -- Emmanuel Lalleve and Florent Imbert, both from the Paris agency Marcel -- to executive creative director posts.

Also, Emilie Vasu was named director of new business development for the shop. She came from Venables Bell. And in May, Ryan Kutscher left as co-chief creative officer, in what the agency described at the time as a "mutual" parting of the ways.

JWT New York clients include Macy’s, Johnson & Johnson, Vonage and Royal Caribbean cruise lines.
