TWC Jumps In Netflix Rankings For Fastest ISPs

Time Warner Cable jumped two spots in June in the Netflix rankings of the fastest Internet service providers (ISPs) in the U.S., passing Mediacom and AT&T U-verse. That came after TWC dropped a notch in May.

The top seven, where the single-market Google Fiber leads by a considerable margin, was unchanged. Cablevision took second, followed by Cox, Suddenlink and Charter to complete the top five. Cablevision has led among large ISPs for six straight months.

CenturyLink moved up a spot to 12th, while Windstream dropped one to 13th. Verizon FiOS is at sixth, four spots ahead of fellow telco bundle provider U-Verse. Comcast stayed in seventh after moving up a slot to the position in May.

The rankings track performance for Netflix content, but the company says they represent a proxy for overall consumer experience with a particular ISP.

The average speed in the U.S. is 2.35 Mbps, according to Netflix. Google Fiber comes in at 3.5 Mbps, followed by Cablevision’s 2.48. No other provider tops the 2.4 mark.

Among the countries that Netflix tracks, the U.S. average speed is below five of them, led by Finland at 2.66 Mbps and Sweden at 2.59 Mbps.

The U.K., where Virgin is the fastest ISP, tops the U.S. slightly at an average of 2.37 Mbps.
