Turn Names Chris Lee First SVP Of HR

Cloud marketing platform Turn has today announced that Chris Lee has been appointed senior vice president of human resources, a new global position. Lee joins from Taleo, where he was head of HR. He has also held a HR leadership role at Apple. He will be based in Redwood City, California.

In an earlier statement, Lee commented that he will focus on growing Turn's teams in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. RTM Daily asked Lee which one of those regions is the most unique when it comes to hiring.

"Each region has its own unique challenges," he said. "Internationally, ensuring that you are delivering a locally appropriate array of rewards and benefits is always a key priority. …[E]nsuring that teams across the world are connected and feel a part of the whole company, despite the long distances, requires a focus and strong culture."

With more than 30 years of talent acquisition experience, Lee has seen many methods come and go. He believes the tools available to HR teams today are "probably the most significant change" compared to 30 years ago. "Modern HR teams now have the tools to enable them to keep an eye on talent from pre-candidate to candidate, candidate to employee, employee to alumni - really the whole life cycle…." He said that that makes him - and others in HR - "so much more productive than we were 30 years ago."

Kudos to Turn for making a strategic investment in human resources. Unfortunately HR tends to be an afterthought in the ad tech community. Although HR doesn't drive revenue- hiring, training, & retaining staff is critical to long term success.
