Vizio Giving Away 'TVs for TDs'

Vizio is bringing back its successful “TDs for TVs” charitable marketing initiative for a second year, again featuring Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson.

For the promotion, every touchdown Johnson scores for the remainder of the season will be rewarded with a 65-inch flat-screen TV given to a fan and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in the city in which he made the play.

“It helps us recognize the values that [Johnson] represents and his best qualities as a player,” Lily Knowles, vice president of product marketing for Vizio, tells Marketing Daily about continuing the promotion for another year. “And it allows fans to get more involved in the games.”

This year’s “TVs for TDs” promotion is similar to the one Vizio and Johnson undertook last year, in which 12 televisions were handed out in three cities (including four in his Johnson’s hometown of Buffalo). Johnson himself has ties to Boys and Girls Clubs of America, citing the organization as “a place that taught me to strive for success off the field,” he said in a statement.

“He embodies what Vizio stands for,” Knowles says. “He’s a gadget guy at heart, and he likes doing things for charity.”

While the Boys & Girls Clubs in the respective cities are automatically part of the promotion, fans can enter the sweepstakes through the TDs for TVs tab on Vizio’s Facebook page or through Vizio’s Fandemonium social community where consumers are encouraged to express enthusiasm on a variety of topics, including sports and entertainment.
