Canon Connects Consumers With Santa

Sending a letter to Santa by the U.S. mail is so 20th century. Now, thanks to Canon USA and the cloud, anyone can write their letter to Santa and send it directly to his workshop printer at the North Pole.

Through a new Facebook app promoting the brand’s PIXMA printers, parents and children can sit down in front of the computer and compose their letter to Santa. They can type words, draw pictures or use pre-selected images to create their wish list and then send it directly to Santa’s printer in the North Pole.

A video shows the consumer-created letter being printed on Santa’s printer, where it’s picked up by elves and trotted through the workshop, making the rounds of a familiar cast of characters (such as the abominable snowman and Mrs. Claus), before Santa gets ahold of the letter and insists the wish list be fulfilled.

“With the holidays quickly approaching we felt this would be a fun and interactive way for parents and children to experience how our printer connects with the cloud in a unique manner,” Kevin McCarthy, marketing supervisor in Canon USA’s ITCG Printer/Consumer Product Marketing Division, tells Marketing Daily. “With users increasingly using their mobile and tablet devices to access information stored in the cloud, this is the ideal time for an application such as this to help promote the capabilities of our newest products.”

The app will be available on Canon’s Facebook page until Christmas Eve, and accessible through desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile devices. Holiday-themed street teams in various cities (such as New York, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Irvine, Calif.) will be deployed in December to promote the app.
