2014: The Year Of 4K TV Content, Distribution

LAS VEGAS -- This year’s 4K TV announcements are all about content, production and distribution -- a shift from last year’s many product introductions of the new ultra HDTV sets.

At the Consumer Electronics Show here, Comcast Corp. said it would produce 4K Ultra High-Definition TV content for Samsung 4K TVs in 2014. In addition, Samsung announced other 4K content deal partners -- Netflix, DirecTV, M-GO and Amazon Instant Video.

Joining the effort where content providers are linking up with TV set manufacturers, Netflix says it will stream Ultra HD TV content over LG TVs in 2014. The new season of Netflix’s “House of Cards” has already been shot in 4K, available for streaming in 2014 on LG TVs.

In addition to Samsung, Amazon’s Amazon Instant Video is also working with Warner Bros, Lionsgate, 21th Century Fox and Discovery Communications, among others, for 4K content. Amazon has said all its new series comedies and dramas will be in the 4K format.

Comcast’s Xfinity TV customers with Samsung 4K TVs already can launch a 4K app directly on their TVs, allowing them to stream 4K produced movies and TV shows' content via the Internet. Comcast is also working with its programmers, including NBCUniversal, to provide a new library of 4K products for the new Xfinity TV 4K app

Purely ORIGINAL UHD videos, NOT STREAMED, LESS COMPRESSED, LOOK BETTER. Vimeo.com/visualambrosia offers FREE UHD art demo downloads.

All are invited to benefit downloading useful demo UHD video files available on vimeo pages. Many various 2-23 minute long documentary art video clips are freely downloadable, Creative Commons.

The movies are made from digital scans. Digital scans of 19th C. chromolithograph art prints are animated into a different style of decorative video atmosphere. Many audiences find these new kind of videos are more calming than aquarium videos looping in waiting areas.

The assorted 30 downloadable video files are all HD and Higher-Than-HD, including 2K, Retina, and UHD examples.

Until more Ultra High Definition commercial content becomes available, my start-up video studio is providing these downloadable, novel UHD wall paper demos as a public service, since there are virtually NO OTHER FREELY DOWNLOADABLE UHD wall paper videos on the net. YouTube videos are streaming, not downloadable.

Two of the downloadable Higher-Than-HD videos have just been entered into the WEBBY AWARDS 2014 competition. Since Monday, many CES attendees have been downloading the 23-minute 2K WEBBY entry, a 1 GB video file.

If anyone downloads a video from vimeo.com/visualambrosia, and finds it useful, please write me your opinion. I’d like to develop a mailing list to announce when my broadcast channel goes live.

My hope is that these free video clips will benefit TV dealers, Digital Signage operators, and purchasers of UHD TVs, enabling everyone to make the best personal purchase decisions, one brand UHD TV compared to another. Purchasers need the chance to sit and watch different sizes of UHD TVs from different viewing distances, in order to select which TV to buy, gauging how that UHD TV works in the spot they will be sitting. TV retailers can jazz up the graphic magnetism of UHD video quality, a lot, offering customers a livelier, richer variety of UHD sample video, a wider variety of demo than UHD TV manufacturers provide.
