Amazon Fire TV Expands Voice Search

Amazon announced Thursday it will expand voice search functions in its Fire TV media streaming box from its own content and music videos from Vevo to support Hulu Plus, Crackle and Showtime Anywhere.

Expect the feature sometime this summer.

Overall feedback from those testing the platform say the voice option works well. When it detects several spelling for the same word it offers options. It will need to work well, as it will compete against Google and Microsoft Cortana.

An update to Roku will also brings new voice controls to the TV through its Roku iPhone app.

Amazon is also working on new features. The company expects Prime Browse to make it even easier to discover movies and TV shows in Prime Instant Video. Amazon FreeTime and Amazon MP3 integration is part of a free, over-the-air software update and more games will be added to the 100+ already available on Fire TV.

Features will let users play touch-enabled games with the upcoming Fire TV app for the phone or tablet.
