Citing Growth, David&Goliath Restructures

David&Goliath founder, president and chief creative officer David Angelo has promoted two of his top lieutenants while stepping back somewhat from his operational duties at the agency.

Brian Dunbar, director of client services, is succeeding Angelo as president and Executive Creative Director Colin Jeffery is taking on the role of Chief Creative Officer. Angelo will continue to lead the agency and its executive team as chairman of the Los Angeles-based agency, which he founded in 1999. He’ll also remain heavily involved in client relationships and further developing the agency brand, the shop indicated.

The shop attributed the restructuring to a growth spurt from new business and organic increases that have led to the hiring of 30 new full time staffers since January, including 14 new creatives. Recent wins include consumer electronics company Vizio and two others for which D&G will unveil work later this year. Some of the new hires are attributed organic growth on the KIA business. Other clients include Universal Studios Hollywood and the California Lottery.

“Both Colin and Brian are the type of entrepreneurial leaders who know what it takes to inspire and motivate people to do great things, from creating groundbreaking work to building an unrivaled agency culture,” Angelo said of the promoted executives. “And in this highly competitive industry, there’s no one I’d rather go to battle with.”

In his new role as President, Dunbar, who joined the agency in 2010, will lead the development and execution of the company’s business strategy and operations, while continuing to oversee the account management and digital departments. He will also lead the shop’s business development efforts and focus on expanding agency offerings and resources, with continued emphasis on building digital and social media capabilities and talent.

Jeffery’s promotion to CCO brings a new structure to the 50-person creative department, which will include four group creative directors to oversee the day-to-day creative process. This new creative management team includes agency veteran Ben Purcell, and his creative partner of five years, Steve Yee and Dino Spadavecchia, who joined the agency from Leo Burnett in May. The search for a fourth GCD is currently underway. Jeffery has run the daily operations of the agency’s creative department since 2006.
