SpotXchange Moves Into Germany, Names Beckmann MD

SpotXchange, the programmatic video supply-side platform (SSP) that sold 65% of its business to RTL Group last year, continues to expand across Europe -- something the company promised it would do after striking the deal with RTL Group, a large European media company.

SpotXchange on Monday announced it has appointed Stefan Beckmann as managing director of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH). He will build out teams in offices in both Hamburg and Munich, per a release.

The move into Germany is noteworthy because RTL Group is majority-owned by Bertelsmann, a German media conglomerate. Real-Time Daily was told that the German market has been eager to see when SpotXchange would make a move in the region, and who would lead the charge.

“Stefan Beckmann has a solid understanding of the digital advertising landscape in DACH, with experience and insight gathered from working at publishers, as well as the leading independent agency,” stated Mike Shehan, CEO of SpotXchange.

Beckmann was most recently country manager, DACH, at Infectious Media. Prior to that he was country manager at Spil Games. He has also held positions at Lycos, and Scoyo -- also a part of Bertelsmann.

“He will bring regional knowledge and excellent programmatic advertising experience to the team, having launched the video advertising campaigns for brands such as Sony, Sky, Disney and Netflix as well as working with all the agencies at Spil Games, all priming him for success in DACH,” added Shehan in a statement.

SpotXchange, headquartered in Denver, Colo., opened offices in Amsterdam and Singapore last month as part of its European expansion.
