Troy Carter To Exit Spotify

Troy Carter, Spotify’s liaison to the creative and artists communities, will leave the music streaming company in September, the company said Monday

Carter, currently Spotify’s global head of creator services, will remain as an adviser to the company following his departure.

Carter fostered relationships not only with musicians and artists, but the traditional music industry writ large. He also oversaw the company’s emerging artists platform and other initiatives.

“I came to this company to help bridge the gap between Spotify and the creative community,” said Carter in a statement. “Over time, that goal evolved from fixing a challenge to building a global team focused on changing the game for artists around the world, partnering with them to help bring their creative visions to life in new and innovative ways.... with so much accomplished, it was the right time to move out of the day-to-day into an advisory role."

Carter’s departure comes just a few months after Spotify went public, and in the midst of a larger content revamp as the service seeks to remain the market leader amid fierce competition from Apple Music.

Last month Spotify named Dawn Ostroff to lead its original content efforts, suggesting a broader effort to develop original, differentiated content.

In its last quarterly earnings report, the company said that it passed 83 million premium subscription members, beating most Wall Street estimates.
