Sony Expands PlayStation Network

  • June 2, 2009
Sony Computer Entertainment America is expanding its PlayStation Network to allow owners of the PSP handheld system access to the virtual store.

The expansion will allow PSP owners direct downloadable access to games, demos and trailers, as well as movies and television shows through its PlayStation store. In addition, the company has added programming from places such as Showtime Networks, Starz Media, G4, Summit Entertainment and Magnolia Films.

To coincide with the expansion, Sony is rebranding its Media Manager for PC software as Media Go, enabling PSP owners to manage games, photos, videos and music on their PCs, as well as providing instant access to the PlayStation Store.

"PlayStation Network has experienced a high growth year and today we're excited to add new content partners such as Showtime, G4 and E!, Magnolia Films, and TNA to our family. In addition to extending our content offerings and expanding with new features like Media Go, we continue to bring relevant and compelling content via original games and programming to our users," said Peter Dille, senior vice president marketing and PlayStation Network, in a statement. --Aaron Baar
