Video Streams Continue To Rise; YouTube Leads

Video consumption remains on the rise, according to September data released by Nielsen on Tuesday. Year-over-year, unique video viewers, total streams, streams per viewer and time per viewer were all up, led by 25% growth in total streams and time per viewer. The number of unique video viewers grew just over 12% year-over-year, while the number of streams per viewer grew just over 11%, according to Nielsen.

Continuing to dominate the market, Google's YouTube accounted for nearly 6.7 billion streams in September and over 100 million unique viewers during the month. (Worldwide, YouTube itself recently claimed to now serve over 1 billion streams a day). Hulu ranked a distant second with about 435 million streams, and about 13.5 million unique viewers in September. --Gavin O'Malley
