Running Start: OMD Wins Media Biz For Brooks Sports

Omnicom Group's OMD has won the media planning and buying account for Brooks Sports Inc., the marketer of running shoes and apparel, after a review, according to sources.

The account, with estimated ad spending of $10 million, will be handled out of OMD's San Francisco office.

Brooks is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. Brooks is a small company, but growing at a fairly rapid clip. It posted revenues of approximately $225 million in 2010, up about 19% from the previous year.

The company's singular focus is running shoes and the gear to go with them. It was founded in 1914 and bought by Berkshire Hathaway in 2006 from the Russell Corp.

The company sponsors numerous elite runners and events including various marathons around the country and many high-school and college track and cross-country competitions.

It wasn't clear what other agencies competed in the review.

OMD declined to comment on the win, referring calls to the client. On Monday, Tiffany Herman, a company spokeswoman, wrote via email: "We haven't yet announced who we are choosing as our media planning and buying agency, but we will let you know as soon as we do."
