Aegis Triples Down In China, Buys TRIO

Dentsu’s Aegis Media has acquired Shanghai-based agency TRIO Digital Integrated, the firms confirmed Tuesday. TRIO is being re-branded Trio Isobar and will become part of the Isobar China group, which also includes Isobar and OMP.

Terms weren’t disclosed although Dentsu said that TRIO had close to $6 million in revenue last year. The shop’s work has included recent campaigns for clients such as Uni-president Pharmaceutical and Abbott Laboratories. The firm has had a working relationship with Carat Media for several years, according to reports.

According to Dentsu, the acquisition will make Isobar one of the largest digital marketing agency networks in China with over 700 staffers.

Founded in 1999, Trio is headed by CEO and Executive Creative Director Chris Chen and employs 120 people.  Aegis said that Chen would continue to lead the agency post-acquisition. Other top managers include General Manager April Chang and Deputy General Manager Britney Pai.

Chen stated that the link-up with Aegis would enable TRIO to “grow our business exponentially. Isobar’s full-service digital focus and scope also allows us to connect with clients across Aegis Media in China and provide increased capabilities across the network.”
