Univision Taps Ooyala For TV Everywhere Platform

Univision has selected Ooyala to help power its new TV Everywhere initiative, which aims to extend the reach of Univision programming across all screens, including mobile Web and apps, as well as offer more personalized live and on-demand content.
Under the terms of the agreement, Univision will use Ooyala’s video publishing and analytics engine to support UVideos, Univision’s bilingual digital video network, and Univision Deportes Network, its 24-hour sports cable net.

Ooyala developed a customized player for UVideos and will support forthcoming UVideos apps on iOS and Android.
Ooyala will also provide insights into viewing habits of the U.S. Hispanic TV audience, including where, when, and on which device, with an eye to optimizing digital programming and advertising strategies.
Kevin Conroy, president of digital and enterprise development for Univision, stated: “Ooyala has done a great job integrating with our existing infrastructure to deliver on our monetization and analytics needs, as well as significantly improve load times to deliver exceptional experiences for our viewers, both online and on mobile.”
Earlier this month, Univision announced a partnership with Applicaster to create cross-screen experiences for Univision viewers available on their mobile devices and desktops. By combining the Applicaster features with its own UVideos network, Univision is able to offer audiences interaction with their favorite telenovela characters, including personal messages with photos, video clips, plot tips and commercial offers in the context of the shows.
Also this month, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks began giving Univision viewers free next-day, on-demand access to Univision content from UVideos on iOS and Android devices. The new on-demand offering includes telenovelas, news, sports and specials, as well as Televisa programming; viewers can choose to watch in Spanish or programming subtitled in English.
