WizRocket Raises $8 Million, Plans To Develop 'Naked API'

Real-time analytics and mobile engagement platform WizRocket announced it has raised $8 million from Sequoia Capital and Accel Partners.

WizRocket will provide developers with code-level access to customization through a ‘naked API,’ or an easy-to-use and understand app interface. The company also plans to grow its prescriptive engagement platform, allowing developers to build one mobile app that supports brands and users.

“I hate spam in my mobile notifications box. So it’s terrific to partner with WizRocket to solve this problem by personalizing messaging,” says Sequoia Capital partner Mohit Bhatnagar.

Co-founded in 2013 by former Network18 executives Sunil Thomas, Suresh Kondamudi and Anand Jain, WizRocket enables Web businesses to utilize push notifications and Web, in-app, SMS, and email messaging. The Mumbai-based company raised about $1.6 million in an initial seed round by Accel Partners.

“By building intelligence into the platform, WizRocket offers marketers and developers a powerful platform to understand and customize the user experience,” adds WizRocket CMO Malcolm Friedberg.

WizRocket’s SDK gives marketers and developers access to uninstall data and advanced customer segmentation, allowing it to build apps that increase customer retention and conversion rates.

Currently in private beta, the company boasts 300 customers, from a range of different global industries, such as e-commerce, publishing and ticketing. Companies like Freecharge, Disqus, Instamojo and Teabox all use WizRocket’s SDK.

Accel focuses on funding Big Data, Internet, mobile and healthcare startups, often as an early investor. Sequoia led a $250 million round of investing for GitHub last month.
