Univision Ad Revs Dip, Expands Digital

Univision’s advertising revenue tumbled in the first quarter -- down 8%.

Company-wide advertising revenue — TV and radio — dropped to $395 million for first three months of the year. TV was down 8.2% to $342 million, with radio sinking 5.3% to $53.3 million. Political advertising slipped 4% to $7.9 million.

But non-advertising revenue — retrans, content, and other revenue — spiked up, nearly 28.5% to $297.3 million.

“We started the year with revenue growth, driven by increases in the subscription fees we receive for the distribution of our content,” stated Randy Falco, president and CEO of Univision Communications.

Falco added: “We continue to grow our estimated average monthly unduplicated media consumer reach, which increased by 34% to 108 million in the first quarter, compared to the same period last year, reflecting our strategy of expanding our digital footprint.”

Univision’s total revenue grew 4.9% to $692.6 million compared to $660.4 million. Net income attributable to Univision Communications sank 13% to $58.1 million versus $66.7 million in the year-ago time period.
