Following the firing of almost 80 employees in November, Conde Nast announced that veteran GQ creative director Jim Moore would be stepping down from his role in January 2018.
Will Welch, who currently serves as GQ Style’s editor-in-chief, will play a dual role, taking on Moore’s title in the new year.----------
Moore, who has been with the publication for nearly four decades, is credited with creating the “GQ look” associated with the men’s fashion magazine, often running style stories that were educational and instructive.
Rather than shy away from a tutorial voice, Moore embraced it. As a result, he helped transform men’s fashion. He is known for his legendary work with photographers such as Bruce Weber, Cass Bird, and Mario Testino. Moore also championed American designers like Ralph Lauren.

Moore had been the publication’s creative director since 1998.
Following his exit, he will become creative-director-at-large and continue to work with the brand and Conde Nast’s publications. His transition to a new role has been compared to Grace Ceddington’s reduced role at Vogue in January 2016.
In a profile with Business of Fashion, Moore noted he was looking forward to collaboration: “I am really loyal to this magazine and this company. I’ll always have that GQ thing inside of me.”
