Newly elected Prime Minister Tony Abbott was forced to abandon his published cyber safety policy after it suggested the Coalition supported the introduction of a mandatory internet filter.
As Labor attacked the Liberals over the position, arguing it was a "massive breach of trust", the Coalition blamed the embarrassing policy gaffe on a "poorly worded" document. It had
been circulating that internet filters would be installed across Australia if the Coalition won government, the opposition announced in a policy released at the 11th hour of the election campaign.
