    Perhaps NBC restrained itself from cheesy animated promos during "The Sound of Music", but not its O&Os. WMAQ-TV here in Chicago splashed its late news anchor duo over the musical in a jarring and annoying way.

    Kevin -- That's terrible to hear. What were the people at WMAQ thinking? It's not like viewers aren't already aware of their late news.

    Ed, what were they thinking with the late news cartoons ? Wouldn't be surprised if they were asking more money for those spots from their advertisers and boasted that is what they would do to keep the audience. Although it may not make sense, it makes sense to the station sales manager.
