'Ad Age' Names Golden Publisher

Advertising Age has named a new publisher.

Josh Golden will be the first publisher in Ad Age’s 86-year history to be hired from outside the company and the first to come from the marketing world, per the company.

Golden was previously vice president of global digital marketing at Xerox. There, he led a global team responsible for the Xerox Web site, along with the company's social media and content publishing efforts.

"We looked at more than a dozen extremely strong candidates for the job, with varying backgrounds, but kept coming back to the need to find someone who could lead Ad Age through the digital and technological upheaval all media companies are wrestling with," stated David Klein, group publisher for Crain Communications, parent company of Ad Age.

Golden will take on the role of publisher on June 1, replacing Allison Arden. Arden was publisher of Ad Age for eight years before she announced last December she would leave mid-year to launch her own venture.

Arden will continue to work as an adviser to Crain to build growth opportunities for Ad Age and write her column on leadership, which began in September.

"Our industry-- and our readers' way of doing business -- are in the midst of a vast transformation right now," stated Rance Crain, president of Crain Communications. He said Gold had the "right mix of skills to navigate this new world."

Prior to his time at Xerox, Golden was CMO of Story Worldwide, a content marketing agency, where he brought in and managed new clients, including Google, Cisco, ARRIS, USA Network and FX.
