Maine Journalism Group Seeks To Acquires Local News Providers

Maine Journalism Foundation (MaineJF), a new nonprofit organization, is seeking to raise $15 million to acquire the Masthead Maine publications in an effort to sustain local journalism in the state.

MaineJF believes that communities must have trusted local news sources to hold the powerful account.

The  founding board of MaineJF is led by Bill Nemitz, a retired local news veteran. It includes Emily Barr, former CEO of Graham Media Group, and Bill Burke, former CEO of The Weather Channel Companies.

Advising the board are Carlos Barrionuevo, Public Meda Company director, and Maddy Corson, former chair of Guy Gannett Communications.

The funding will also go towards supporting MaineJF.
