Gannett To Send Three South Carolina Papers Via USPS

Gannett is continuing its practice of turning over local newspaper delivery to the U.S. Postal Service.

Three South Carolina publications — the Greenville News, Spartanburg Herald-Journal and Anderson Independent Mail — will start being delivered by the USPS on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

“We are making this transition to ensure our newspaper delivery is consistent,” writes Gabe Whisnant, executive editor of all three papers, in the Greenville News. “A number of economic and workforce factors have created ongoing challenges with our newspaper delivery. Delivering the print edition through the USPS is the best way to guarantee our work gets into the hands of paid subscribers.”

Whisnant adds that the Sunday edition will be delivered on Saturdays, including advertising inserts that now are placed on Sundays.

He concedes that “this shift will affect many of your morning routines since newspapers will arrive later. We appreciate your understanding and adapting to the change.”

However, he adds that,  “if you need your local news with your morning coffee (like me),” readers can access the e-newspaper on their comptuers or mobile devices.

Whisnant notes,Your subscription will continue to provide you full access to our websites, plus early morning newsletters delivered to your email,” including e-newspapers in the USA Network.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Gannett will now mail the Lebanon (Pennsylvania) Daily News through the U.S. Postal Service, as opposed to delivering it directly.
