Publishing veteran Henry Marks has died at age 93 on Oct. 1, in hospice care in Southampton, New York, according to an obituary posted with The New York Times. 

Known for his colorful attire, including mismatched shoes, Marks served a variety of publishers, from Dow Jones to Playboy to DM News, often in sales and publishing positions, and was also active in M&A deals. When interviewing for new posts, he would only promise, “I’ll make you a lot of money.” 

Marks is survived by his daughter Donnelly Marks and her husband Sam Varnedoe, son Will Marks and his wife Claudia Sato, daughter-in-law Lynn Marks and grandson Eugene Varnedoe.
