Daily Gazette To Close On Sale Of Two Newspapers in January

The Daily Gazette Co. will close its purchase of The Daily Mail and The Register-Star from Johnson Newspapers by the end of January.

The terms were not disclosed.

The Register-Star serves Columbia County and The Daily Mail Greene County. These areas encompass the Hudson and Catskill areas of New York State, the Times Union reports.

The transaction was initially supposed to close in May, but there were complications having to do with liens and debt, the Times Union writes.

Mary Dempsey, executive editor of the Catskill and Hudson newspapers, has been asked to stay on, The Daily Gazette reports.

The plan is to run the publications from Schenectady, home of The Daily Gazette.

Earlier this year, Johnson News Group sold four papers in western and central New York to Sample News Group.
