  • CHARLOTTE FREEMANTLE was named EMEA head of communications planning at Universal McCann. She joins UM from Carat where most recently she was responsible for providing International Communications Strategy for Renault, Beiersdorf and SCA.


  • The Los Angeles office of Universal McCann has promoted ELIAS PLISHNER to SVP, digital communications. In addition, CINDY PARK has been promoted to VP, associate media director.


  • KEVIN SMITH has been named senior vice president and DOUGLAS A. WRIGHT has been named vice president at Campbell-Ewald. Smith will work on the Chevrolet account and most recently worked at JWT, Detroit. Wright recently worked at R*Works as senior vice president, regional managing director.


  • KATHY DELANEY, chief creative officer of Deutsch New York, and JEFFREY WOLF, partner-director of account planning, are leaving the agency to pursue other interests.


  • LAURA BURKHART SEBEKOS has been promoted from director partner management to vice president, partnership management at Jumpstart Automotive Media.


  • BRIAN J. SMITH has joined Burst Media as an account executive in the Chicago office. Recently, Smith had been with CBS RADIO in Chicago as an account executive for the Chicago Bears Radio Network.


  • MIKE WILSON joined dentsuAmerica in New York as executive vice president and chief creative officer, a new position at the agency. Wilson most recently was senior partner and group creative director at Ogilvy & Mather, New York, where he was worldwide creative director on the DHL and Kodak accounts and also worked on the American Express Blue business.


  • GWEN BASINGER has been named executive vice president of R&R Partners’ newly established business development division. Basinger joins the agency from DDB Chicago, where she served as senior vice president, director of business development.


  • ROSIE WALKER has been named marketing director for Smithsonian MagazinePublishing. Walker joins Smithsonian Magazine Publishing from National Geographic Traveler, where she served as marketing director.


  • KEVIN HONEY has been promoted to executive vice president, group account director at Saatchi & Saatchi. He most recently was senior vice president, management director. In his new role, Honey will oversee all of Saatchi & Saatchi’s field operations for Toyota Dealers.


  • PATRICIA LIPPE DAVIS has been appointed associate publisher, marketing for AARP Publications. Davis joins the company from Hearst’s Good Housekeeping.


  • DAVID ZASLAV, president of NBC Universal Cable and Domestic TV and New Media Distribution, has been named president and chief executive officer of Discovery Communications.


  • STEVEN MORRISON has joined DraftFCB in Chicago as senior vice president, director of broadcast editorial. In his newly created post, Morrison will be leading the editorial arm of the broadcast production & emerging content department being formed at the agency.


  • MARK GOODMAN, former founder and president of FCB Direct Canada, joined Montreal-based Twist Image as a full partner and CEO.


  • MARY KRAMER, formerly vice president creative services, Sony Wonder at Sony BMG Music Entertainment has joined BIRD Design as senior vice president of marketing.


  • JAMIE MCCABE has been promoted to the newly created position of executive vice president -- Worldwide Pay-Per-View, Video-On-Demand and Electronic Sell-Through for Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. McCabe joined Twentieth Century Fox in the Pay Television group in 1993. Prior to joining Fox, he held positions with The Walt Disney Company and Merrill Lynch.


  • Ogilvy has hired KYM BLANCHARD as director of branded alliances, a new position at the agency. She joins Ogilvy from Vibe Magazine where she was associate publisher, marketing. At Ogilvy, Blanchard will focus on leveraging and extending client marketing efforts with marketing partners.


  • TM Advertising has hired JASON DUVALL as ACD/art director and HAYDEN GILBERT as ACD/copywriter. Duvall and Gilbert come to TM from Barkley, formerly Barkley Evergreen & Partners in Kansas City.


  • KENNETH LIU has joined MindTouch as chief executive officer.


  • Wexley School for Girls has hired JAMIE MURRY, who most recently worked at fellow Seattle ad agency, Sedgwick Rd. KINDRA MEYER was hired to handle creative work for clients such Sharp’s Barber Brigade, People for Puget Sound, Microsoft and Atlas. Lastly, CHRIS LOHMAN was named account manager.


  • SWMX has named MARYANN VARSOLONA as a broadcast radio specialist providing transaction and campaign support to SWMX's roster of advertising clients. Varsolona was most recently a media supervisor and senior account representative with Ogilvy and Mather.


  • JEREMIAH OWYANG was named director of corporate media strategy at Podtech.net.


  • Deutsch has named JAIME KALFUS as senior vice president/associate director of account planning of Deutsch New York. Kalfus was most recently EVP/group director of brand planning at Young & Rubicam, New York, where she led a team of strategists on Xerox, Weight Watchers and MetLife.


  • FAWN MORNINGSTAR has joined Ad Infuse as marketing manager. She joins the company from Apple, where she was in charge of strategic partnership planning & management, driving the growth of the Online Apple Store. Prior to that, she was senior media buyer & planner with Carat Fusion.


  • PAUL MEAD was named president of DraftFCB Canada. Most recently, Mead was president of Foote, Cone & Belding Canada. Mead then named JOHN BONIFACE chief operating officer and ROBIN HEISEY chief creative officer. They previously served as president and executive creative director of FCB Toronto, respectively. Draft Toronto president PETER COISH has decided to leave the agency.


  • CHRISTOPHER GYORGY has been named senior vice president, executive creative director of art at DraftFCB Chicago.


  • G2 Worldwide has named JOHN PAULSON president of G2 Interactive, G2’s North American unit specializing in interactive marketing communications. Paulson will be responsible for overseeing the management and operations of the unit. He replaces NORM LEHOULLIER, who is retiring after 30 years with Grey Global Group.
