CBS' Unprecedented Commitment To Political Coverage

CBS Television stations in 17 markets covering more than one-third of the United States will initiate an unprecedented commitment to political coverage beginning Oct. 2, 2000, it was announced today by Leslie Moonves, President and Chief Executive Officer, CBS Television. All Company owned television stations that carry news will participate in the initiative.

Between Oct. 2 and Election Day, Nov. 7 -- the final 37 days of Campaign 2000 -- a unique five minutes per day will be broadcast on all stations. Reflecting the recommendations of a Presidential Commission co-chaired by Mr. Moonves, these segments will be produced by the local stations and will be broadcast between 5:00 PM and 11:35 PM within existing local news broadcasts and will include a wide range of information of importance to voters in federal, state and local elections, including candidate-centered discourse and issue-related features and forums.
