Internet Radio Broadcasters See Summer Audiences Grow

MeasureCast says that for the third week in a row, 16 of the MeasureCast Top 25 Internet radio broadcasters enjoyed an increase in audience size (known to radio broadcasters as Cume), while 19 stations recorded an increase in the total number of hours streamed, or total time spent listening (TTSL). Together, the top 25 stations streamed 53,277 more hours of entertainment last week than they did the week before.

Meanwhile, the total time spent listening to a spectrum of Internet radio stations measured by MeasureCast has more than doubled since the company began tracking on-line listening in January. The MeasureCast Internet Radio Index for the week of July 30 to August 5 rose four percent from 199 to 207.

MeasureCast rankings newcomer Radio 13, which offers a variety of music formats, debuted in the number 16 position. MEDIAmazing.com still tops the weekly list, while WHUR-FM and Cablemusic.com Top 40 continued to climb the chart.

Other facts for the week of July 30 - August 5:

- 81% of all listening occurred between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific.

- The peak listening hour was 11 a.m. Pacific, with 9% of the day's listening.

- 11% of the week's TTSL took place over the weekend, an increase of 6% over the previous week

- The peak listening day was Wednesday, with 19% of all TTSL occurring on this day.

- The largest single age group listening to Internet radio: 25-34 year-olds (29%).

- 55% of listeners were under 35; 26% were younger than 25, and 5% were over 55.

- 70% of listeners were men; 30% were women.

- Top streaming nations include the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Mexico.

- The South (31%) and the West (30%) of the U.S. have the greatest number of streaming media consumers.
