'Raw' Spots: Kmart To Sponsor WWE

WWE-Wrestlin

Kmart has inked a multifaceted sponsorship deal with the WWE that involves integrating its brand into the weekly shows on USA and Syfy, while its logo will be placed on tickets at live events. Kmart will also buy a run of spots in USA's "Monday Night Raw" and Syfy's "Friday Night SmackDown."

At the core of Kmart's deal is a presenting sponsorship of all WWE live events this year, which could bring wide exposure when events are carried on pay per view, including WrestleMania XXVII in April.

Kmart will also have its brand on event tickets, promotional material and digital outlets. Also included are ads in WWE's magazine, sponsorship of a new Kmart-branded microsite and WWE talent appearing in stores.

During the USA and Syfy shows, Kmart will receive a mention in the lower third portion of the screen during the programming.

Sponsors do back some of WWE's live events, but this is the first time a single sponsor will be involved for the full 250. Sponsors include Slim Jim and the National Guard.

Attendance at live WWE events in North America fell in the fourth quarter, with the average down 15% to 5,600. There was also a 23% decline in pay-per-view buys.

WWE said the Kmart arrangement is a multimillion-dollar deal, but would not give specifics. Syfy began airing "SmackDown" last fall after it was on MyNetworkTV.
