The Fresh Smell of Social Media
What does social media smell like? Does it have floral, woodsy or techie notes? The more important question is: Do you want to smell like social media? Will smelling like social media enhance your brick-and-mortar life of going out and interacting with people in person?
CrowdGather, a network of online forums, intends to bottle, sell and market the scent of social media.
The unisex fragrance will be sold online only, advertised in the very forums and virtual communities visited regularly by millions of gamers and tech-savvy individuals.
CrowdGather partnered with Human Pheromone Sciences, a company that manufactures, markets and develops consumer products that contain synthetic human pheromones. And pheromones have been proven to increase arousal and excitement in men and women. Score another point for your brick-and-mortar social life.
Dubbed Erox, the fragrance will include a patent pending compound called ER303 that's similar to human pheromones but derived from sea coral.
As part of the partnership, CrowdGather will acquire the Erox.com domain name and trademarks from Human Pheromone Sciences.
Erox will cost between $25 and $30 per bottle and is expected to ship by Labor Day.
"The purpose of the scent is to give the wearer added confidence during their social interactions," said Sanjay Sabnani, CEO of CrowdGather.
The unique partnership came about when Crowdgather met with Human Pheromone Sciences to help them use the Internet to attract new audiences.
Erox will be promoted through online videos, social media and affiliate marketing channels.

Smells like teen spirit.
Or flatulence.
Betcha.
This is likely not the worst idea ever conceived. I can't say for sure. I'm not that confident in my encyclopedic knowledge of bad ideas. But I suspect that it's up there.
