'National Enquirer' iPad App to 'Reinvent Gossip'

American Media Inc. will release the Enquirer Plus iPad app next month to extend its National Enquirer celebrity gossip brand onto tablets, The New York Times reports. Aiming for a younger demographic than the print weekly, Enquirer Plus will have different content from the newsstand version and include video. AMI says it will dedicate staff to the tablet venture. Sharing tools will make it easy to spread the gossip for which the magazine is famous. The veteran brand finds itself up against digital upstarts like TMZ, Perez Hilton and RadarOnline, which skew young and hip. "This is not your mother's National Enquirer," quips AMI CEO David Pecker.
