ISIPP's "Spam and the Law" Event to Take Place in January

  • December 8, 2003
The Institute for Spam and Internet Public Policy (ISIPP) announced that its national "Spam and the Law" conference will be held in San Francisco on January 22. Speakers scheduled to appear include Stanford Law Professor Lawrence Lessig, Internet attorney Jon Praed, Federal Trade Commission attorney Brian Huseman and technology journalist Declan McCullagh.

In a press release, ISIPP president and chief executive officer Anne Mitchell described the summit as the first-ever in-depth treatment of the state of spam and the law. "These distinguished experts... [will] explain exactly what one may, may not, should and should not do with respect to email practices and the law," she promised. The conference will also survey the uncertain state of email marketing in the wake of the passage of a federal anti-spam law. "If anybody thinks that the passage of the federal law makes things simpler for email senders or receivers, they are sorely mistaken," Mitchell added.

Conference sponsors include WhatCounts, eDeliverability, IronPort Systems, TalkBiz News and Informz.
