FBI Accused of Malware Attack on Anonymous Hosting Network

Freedom Hosting (FH), the largest hosting company on the anonymous Tor network, was hacked into and initial research points to the FBI as responsible for the attack. The attack was revealed on August 5th, when the service discovered malicious software in the form of a Java Script attack in multiple websites hosted by the anonymous network. The attack exploits vulnerabilities within the Firefox 17 web browser, included in older versions of the Tor Browser Bundle (TBB), which lets users browse the Internet anonymously. The TOR Anonymity project, announced the news on its website, "An attack that exploits Firefox vulnerability in JavaScript has been observed in the wild. Specifically, Windows users using the Tor Browser Bundle (which includes Firefox plus privacy patches) appear to have been targeted."
