Glenn Ordway Launching Web-Based Sports-Talk Show

Boston sports-talk icon Glenn Ordway is the latest 'old school' media guy to go digital.

After nearly three decades on terrestrial radio, Ordway is launching his own Web-based radio station, SportsTalkBoston.com. The station's first show will be a reboot of Ordway's hugely popular "The Big Show," which aired on his old employer, WEEI.

Ordway left EEI in early 2013 after his ratings in the prized afternoon drive slot took a beating from competitor 98.5 The Sports Hub. Since then, he has been hosting a weekend show on Sirius XM.

In his latest incarnation, Ordway will again be going after the lucrative 3-6 p.m. slot with "The Big Show Unfiltered." Commuters will be able to pick up the show via mobile devices.

In an interview Thursday with the Boston Globe, Ordway said his cyber-station will also be taking a different approach to on-air advertising. In lieu of the regularly scheduled commercial breaks heard on conventional radio, "The Big Show Unfiltered" will feature a steady stream of smaller ads in addition to some longer breaks

“We’re going to reach out and try to grab 12 partners. These are the places you go and do business with because they’re our partners, and we will mention them within the flow of the program," Ordway told the Globe.

Ordway isn't rejecting his roots, however. According to a statement released Thursday, he's in talks "to build a terrestrial radio network with affiliates throughout New England, as well as with satellite radio."

"The Big Show Unfiltered" will begin airing on St. Patrick's Day, March 17.
