The SEC Doesn't Want Email Privacy Reform

The Securities and Exchange Commission opposes the Email Privacy Act, a law which would update the 1986 legislation which currently determines how email privacy is regulated. The outdated law allows law enforcement and government agencies to read old emails of people under investigation without a warrant. The new legislation would require a warrant to read messages older than 180 days. The SEC is concerned that their investigations would be hindered since they expect less requests to be approved under the new law.
