Unambiguous Consent For Data Enshrined In New EU Regulation

The European Union has finally agreed on the text of its new General Data Protection Regulation after nearly four years’ debate, with marketers forced to seek a “clear affirmative action” from consumers if they want to use their data. Marketers will be required to get “unambiguous” consent from consumers before using their data for marketing purposes, under new laws agreed upon by the European Union. Penalties for breaching consumers’ data rights will also become harsher, with companies facing fines of up to 4% of turnover.
