New York Times Co. Sees Record Traffic In January

  • February 21, 2005
The New York Times Co. last week announced record traffic numbers in January 2005, posting an increase of 30 percent over last year's numbers in the same month. According to internal traffic monitoring, page views in January topped 553 million, with 16.4 million unique visitors. This broke the previous record, set in November 2004, when the site saw 551 million page views.

The Times Co.'s internal numbers were significantly higher than those of Nielsen//NetRatings, which registered slightly more than 13.8 million unique visitors in January. The company attributed its online growth to the re-launch of four major sections on NYTimes.com--travel, theater, personal technology, and real estate. Real estate and travel saw particular growth, with 156 percent and 140 percent year-over-year increases in page views, respectively.
