Ahead of a broader rollout in 2020, several Chinese cities are testing a
“social credit” system, which determines a citizen’s creditworthiness based on an Orwellian array of
factors. “A person can incur black marks for infractions such as fare cheating, jaywalking and violating family-planning rules,” The
Wall Street Journal reports.
“In time, Beijing expects to draw on bigger, combined data pools, including a person’s internet activity,” The
