Penn Media To Serve Video Ads

  • May 10, 2005
E-mail newsletter advertising network Penn Media today will unveil a broad initiative to place a proprietary video player on its network of Web sites to serve streaming advertisements and relevant content. Dubbed Vidsense, the program will match appropriate video content to its sites, which range from humor to history to politics. "Most sites can't afford to license content, encode, stream, and sell advertising for their site," said PennMedia.com CEO Jaffer Ali. "Most sites do not have the reach. The Vidsense program takes care of all of this." Each clip will be preceded by a 15- to-30-second video ad. Revenue generated from the video views will be shared with the sites placing the player on their site, according to Ali. Penn has secured access to over 100,000 hours of content, according to a company statement, ranging from George Carlin and Abbott & Costello to speeches of JFK and Ronald Reagan. --Gavin O'Malley
