MeasureCast, Inc. last week released the MeasureCast Internet Radio Report for July, which shows that 4.6 million people listened to Web radio stations measured by MeasureCast last month, up from 4.3 million listeners recorded in June.

In July, MeasureCast provided audience data for 1,320 streaming radio stations, 26 fewer than the 1,346 stations measured in June. During the month of July, those 1,320 stations streamed a combined total of 39,589,429 hours of entertainment - 1.9 million hours more than MeasureCast-measured stations delivered in June.

"Internet radio is more popular than ever," said MeasureCast CEO Randy Hill. "Since January 2001, we've seen a 714% increase in the total time spent listening to stations measured by MeasureCast. Nevertheless, only 27% of the U.S. population, or 77 million people, has listened to a radio Webcast. That means the industry has plenty of room to grow."

To illustrate the growing popularity of Internet radio, the number one station in MeasureCast's December 2000 Top 50 chart was WABC Radio, which streamed 314,000 hours of Talk radio to some 43,000 listeners.
